Premier League boss dismisses possibility of January transfer for Liverpool and Manchester United target
Crystal Palace head coach Oliver Glasner is confident that Marc Guéhi will remain at Selhurst Park until the end of the current campaign, despite growing interest from several of Europe’s elite clubs. While the England defender continues to be linked with a move away, Glasner has stressed that Palace are focused on stability and sporting ambition rather than securing a quick financial windfall.
Speculation around Guéhi’s future has persisted since the summer, when a late move to Liverpool fell through. Although talks progressed deep into the window, Palace ultimately chose to keep their captain, a decision that highlighted just how highly they rate the 25-year-old centre-back.
With Guéhi entering the final year of his contract next season, many expected Palace to sell either last summer or in the January window. Interest has certainly not faded, with Liverpool and Manchester United both tracking his situation, while Manchester City have reportedly earmarked him as a key defensive target for 2026 as Pep Guardiola plans a long-term refresh of his back line.
Even so, Glasner has played down the chances of a mid-season departure. “I think Marc will stay until the end of the season,” the Austrian said, underlining the club’s position at a time when rumours are intensifying, according to The Standard.
From a business standpoint, a January sale could make sense, allowing Palace to secure a sizeable fee rather than risk losing Guéhi for nothing when his deal expires. However, Glasner’s comments suggest the club are willing to put results before revenue.
Internally, Guéhi is viewed as indispensable. As captain, he provides leadership at the back, influence in the dressing room, and has been central to Palace’s defensive structure, composure on the ball, and overall consistency under Glasner.
Club insiders indicate Palace are reluctant to disrupt their squad mid-season, believing it could derail their Premier League and cup objectives. While this approach may frustrate admirers such as Liverpool and Manchester City, it reflects a shift in Palace’s mindset.
Rather than simply selling assets, the Eagles are signalling a determination to compete and progress, even at the cost of potential profit. Guéhi’s long-term future will continue to attract attention, but for now, Palace appear united in their resolve to keep their captain through to the end of the season.
