Fabrizio Romano: Liverpool-linked Marc Guehi has held two discussions with Bayern Munich

 

 

Marc Guéhi’s camp has opened discussions with one of Europe’s elite clubs, leaving his potential switch to Liverpool uncertain.

 

The central defender came within touching distance of joining the Reds on deadline day in the summer. Liverpool had agreed a £35m deal with Crystal Palace, and Guéhi even completed a medical, but the FA Cup holders dramatically called off the transfer late on. With his Palace contract set to expire at the end of the season — and no renewal planned — the England international is set to leave on a free, attracting interest from several major sides.

 

Liverpool remain keen, but competition is intensifying. Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and now Manchester City have all been linked as Guéhi weighs up his options ahead of a defensive reshuffle at the Etihad.

 

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Guéhi’s representatives have already held two rounds of talks with Bayern Munich. However, the German champions’ next move may depend on the future of Dayot Upamecano, who is also approaching the end of his contract. Should Upamecano renew, Bayern’s focus could shift; if not, Guéhi could become a priority target.

 

Speaking on Men in Blazers, Romano stressed that Liverpool remain firmly in the picture, potentially as a free-transfer option. He also confirmed interest from Spain, though contacts from Barcelona and Real Madrid are not yet advanced, while any move to Italy has been ruled out. One thing, however, is clear: Guéhi will leave Palace, and the race for his signature is gathering pace.

 

Reflecting on the failed Liverpool deal, Palace chairman Steve Parish praised Guéhi’s attitude, admitting the defender was open to the move but respectful of the club’s decision. Parish explained that Palace felt selling him at that point posed too great a risk, believing his presence could be the difference between a strong campaign and a relegation battle.
