Liverpool winger speaks out with heartfelt message following sudden injury blow

Liverpool’s build-up to a tough winter run has suffered an unexpected setback after disappointing news emerged from one of the club’s most exciting young attackers.

Kaide Gordon revealed on Instagram that he has suffered a torn meniscus, describing it as “the worst news I could have got.” The 21-year-old admitted his frustration, adding that he will be sidelined for a period but remains confident he will return stronger.

The injury is a cruel blow for the winger, who had worked tirelessly to regain momentum after missing the entire 2022–23 season through a long-term problem. Gordon had started to recapture the spark that once made him Liverpool’s youngest-ever FA Cup goalscorer, netting on his debut against Shrewsbury in January 2022.

This season, he had been impressing again with the Under-21s, delivering four goals and four assists in eight appearances while averaging an impressive 4.5 successful dribbles per 90 minutes. Those performances had put him firmly back on the radar for senior involvement.

With Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo and Federico Chiesa all unavailable at various points, Gordon had even been pushing for a place in Arne Slot’s matchday squad and trained ahead of the recent Champions League clash with PSV Eindhoven.

The setback also effectively ends any realistic prospect of a January move, something Under-21s boss Rob Page had previously suggested could happen if Gordon maintained his form. Praise for the youngster has been consistent, with his progress previously highlighted by Ian Doyle, who noted that Jurgen Klopp was a big admirer — underlining the regard he has earned under different managers.

For Gordon, it means another frustrating spell on the sidelines just as he appeared close to a first-team breakthrough. He featured as a substitute in the Carabao Cup defeat to Crystal Palace in October and had hoped to build on that involvement.

Instead, recovery now becomes the priority once again. Still, Gordon ended his message with defiance, insisting he will return — and supporters will be hoping this latest obstacle does not derail a career that continues to show clear top-level potential.
