Alan Sugar Urges Spurs to Make Surprise Managerial Appointment to Replace Thomas Frank

Former Tottenham owner and chairman Lord Sugar has urged the club to consider appointing a top-level manager in place of Thomas Frank after Spurs’ heavy 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest.

It was another troubling afternoon for Spurs at the City Ground, where Forest swept them aside with goals from Ibrahim Sangare and a brace from Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario played a role in the opening goal, coming just two weeks after he was jeered by Spurs supporters during the defeat to Fulham. The Italian’s pass put Archie Gray under pressure, allowing Sangare to win possession before Hudson-Odoi finished from close range in the 28th minute.

Forest’s second was even more unfortunate for Vicario, who misjudged the flight of Hudson-Odoi’s attempted cross and watched it drift straight into the net.

After Frank substituted Djed Spence, Gray and Rodrigo Bentancur, Forest sealed the victory when Sangare fired a long-range effort past Vicario. The result leaves Tottenham 11th in the Premier League, with just one win in their last seven league matches, intensifying speculation over Frank’s position less than six months after his arrival from Brentford.

Frank was also forced to address an incident involving Spence, who reacted angrily to being taken off. The full-back was seen muttering and gesturing toward the bench before throwing a coat that had been handed to him, prompting Frank to confirm he would speak to the player.

With Spurs’ form continuing to dip, calls for a managerial change have grown louder. Sugar added to the debate by suggesting the club should target former Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp. Posting on X, he wrote: “With the massive fortune of the Lewis family, it would be a win-win situation if they hired Jurgen Klopp in January. Loads of money for players and a great manager.”

Klopp spent nine years in the Premier League with Liverpool before stepping down at the end of the 2023/24 season and has not taken on another coaching role since. However, in January 2024, the German insisted he would never manage another English club, citing his deep connection with Liverpool and its supporters.

Klopp, who lifted eight major trophies during his time at Anfield, is currently serving as Head of Global Soccer for the Red Bull Group.
