Neville Breaks His Silence on the Salah–Slot Fallout at Liverpool

 

 

English pundit Gary Neville has finally broken his silence on Mohamed Salah’s fallout with Arne Slot at Liverpool. Known for speaking his mind, the former Manchester United defender had avoided the topic—until now.

 

Salah dominated headlines after his explosive reaction to being left on the bench in Liverpool’s 3-3 draw with Leeds United. He publicly admitted he has “no relationship” with Slot and claimed he had been “thrown under the bus.” Jamie Carragher delivered a scathing response on Sky Sports, calling Salah’s behaviour “a disgrace.”

 

Neville has now shared his view, comparing Salah’s actions to Cristiano Ronaldo’s controversial exit from Manchester United. Speaking to Sky Sports, he said he understands both perspectives:

 

“I can see it from both sides. Not from an ordinary player, but from someone who’s almost the best in the world—Salah is in that category. You don’t excuse it, just like I didn’t excuse Cristiano’s behaviour at United, but world-class players think differently.”

 

He added that such reactions are not unusual for players of that calibre:

“It’s easier for me when it’s Liverpool—I can relax. But if it were United, I’d be furious, like I was with Cristiano’s interview. The timing was wrong, the delivery was wrong, so I understand why Liverpool fans are upset.”

 

Neville said he felt Salah should have been brought on against Leeds, but also sees the club’s side:

“Liverpool feel let down. He’s brought attention they didn’t need in a difficult moment. If this was any other player without Salah’s talent or record, they’d be out the door quickly. But exceptional players don’t accept being benched.”

 

He concluded that he has played with stars who reacted similarly and left the club soon after.

 

According to GIVEMESPORT, Liverpool plan to recall Salah for the Brighton match this weekend. He stayed home during the trip to Italy, where the Reds beat Inter Milan 1-0 in the Champions League. Positive talks with Slot have eased tensions, but Salah will still depart for AFCON after the Brighton fixture, and his long-term future remains uncertain.

 

Saudi clubs are ready to move for him again in January, with MLS sides also showing interest.
