Ornstein says Salah’s place at Liverpool could become impossible to maintain under two specific circumstances.

 

 

Respected reporter David Ornstein has outlined how Mohamed Salah’s future at Liverpool could quickly become “untenable”, with FSG said to be “bewildered” by his recent outburst.

 

Liverpool were already struggling before Salah’s comments, but his remarks have only deepened the crisis. After a sharp dip in form this season, head coach Arne Slot dropped him for the must-win game against West Ham— a match the Reds won 2-0 without him, ending a run of nine defeats in 12 games.

 

Salah also began on the bench against Sunderland and Leeds, and after the draw at Elland Road, he publicly claimed he has no relationship with Slot and felt “thrown under the bus”. Liverpool responded by leaving him out of the squad entirely for the Champions League clash with Inter Milan, and he is now expected to miss the Brighton game as well.

 

It increasingly appears that Salah could depart in 2026—or even as early as the next transfer window.

 

According to Ornstein, Liverpool insist they do not want to sell and view Salah’s recent benching as temporary. Club leaders are shocked at how fast the situation has escalated and believe the next move is up to Salah, who must clarify his intentions. If he wants to leave, he needs to outline the way forward so the club can respond.

 

Internally, there is a belief Salah’s remarks were either intended to force a transfer or put pressure on Slot. It has also been recognised that FSG may have to concede his position is “untenable” if Salah maintains a hardline stance and no resolution is possible.
