Daniel Sturridge Discloses What Mo Salah Has Said Regarding His Future at Liverpool
Daniel Sturridge has shared what Mohamed Salah personally told him about his Liverpool future following the Reds’ Champions League win over Inter Milan on Tuesday night.
Salah, who was frustrated after being left on the bench against Leeds United at the weekend, caused a storm with a fiery post-match interview in which he claimed he had “no relationship” with Arne Slot and suggested someone inside the club had “thrown him under the bus.” His comments spread quickly online, and Liverpool ultimately chose to keep him in Merseyside rather than take him to Milan for the Inter clash.
Even without the 33-year-old, Liverpool managed a crucial victory thanks to Dominik Szoboszlai’s 88th-minute penalty. Sturridge, who played alongside Salah from 2017 to 2019 and was working as a pundit for Amazon Prime Video at the San Siro, described Salah’s remarks as “terrible” and “poor,” though he said he understood the emotions behind them.
After the match, Sturridge offered more insight into Salah’s mindset and revealed what the Egyptian told him about his future. Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, he said:
“He’ll have been at home wishing he was here, wishing he could help the team. When everything is still so fresh, it’s hard to step back and reflect. We’ve all experienced highs and lows.
“Right now, I know Mo wants to help the team get back to the top. Watching things unfold from home hurts — for any injured player or anyone in a situation like this, being left out is the last thing you want. And I know this will be hurting him.
“He loves this club — he’s told me that himself. Mo has said, ‘I love this football club. I don’t want to leave. This is where I want to be.’ He wants to stay at Liverpool, but he also wants to play. There needs to be another conversation between him and the manager. I can’t speak for how he’ll feel going forward, but a proper discussion has to happen.”
Before the Inter match kicked off, Salah posted a picture of himself training in the gym, showing his determination to stay in top shape.
Liverpool are back in action on Saturday when they host Brighton at Anfield, though it’s unclear whether Salah will feature. If he does, it might be his final appearance for the club. After the match, he is set to join Egypt for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, and a potential transfer could be completed before he returns to Merseyside.
