Woman sentenced to prison over £152k extortion plot targeting Tottenham legend Heung-min Son.

Tottenham icon Heung-min Son was recently the target of an attempted blackmail scheme — but the individuals involved have now been jailed.

Reports first surfaced in May that the former Spurs captain had been subjected to an extortion attempt. According to Yonhap News, Son alerted the Korean police after claiming that a man and woman had tried to blackmail him.

The woman had allegedly approached Son saying she was pregnant with his child, initially contacting him in June of last year. She and an associate later confronted Son again this March, demanding money in exchange for keeping the matter quiet.

Four-Year Prison Term After Blackmail Plot Against Son

Sky News has since reported that the woman, named as Yang, was charged with attempting to extort 300 million won (£152,000) from the football star in 2024.

She is said to have sent Son an ultrasound image of a baby that she falsely claimed was his, using the fabricated story to pressure him into paying for her silence.

The Seoul Central District Court ruled that Yang had “lied” to Son, and after admitting to the crime, she received a four-year prison sentence for her role in the blackmail attempt.

Emotional Tottenham Return for Son

The South Korean forward will no doubt feel a sense of relief as justice is served ahead of his return to Tottenham on Tuesday.

Son is set to appear as a special guest at Spurs’ home match against Slavia Prague, with the 33-year-old describing the occasion as “emotional” as he prepares to reunite with former teammates and supporters.

In recognition of his remarkable contribution to the club, a mural dedicated to Son is also being painted along Tottenham High Road.
