Trent Alexander-Arnold Delivers Clear Message to Mo Salah as Liverpool Tensions Rise
Former Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has now added his voice to the growing fallout between Mohamed Salah and the club.
Salah sparked major controversy after Liverpool’s 3-3 draw with Leeds on Saturday, giving a shock post-match interview in which he claimed the club had “thrown him under the bus.” The Egyptian star did not feature in the match and later revealed he no longer has a relationship with head coach Arne Slot.
His remarks immediately fueled speculation that his time at Anfield may be coming to an end, with pundits suggesting he might have already played his final game for the Reds. On Monday Night Football, Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher blasted Salah’s behaviour, calling it a “disgrace.” Carragher accused him of choosing the moment of a poor result to launch an attack on Slot, implying the timing was intended to put the manager under pressure.
Although Salah has been excluded from the travelling squad for the Champions League tie against Inter Milan, Slot refused to confirm that the forward’s Liverpool career is over. The Dutch manager insisted Salah’s outburst had not weakened his authority.
As the squad prepares for the Inter clash, Salah has been training alone at Melwood, even sharing a photo of himself in the gym — a post that was notably liked by Alexander-Arnold.
The England international, who left Liverpool under tense circumstances after running down his contract and securing a £10 million move to Real Madrid before the Club World Cup, seemed to publicly back his former teammate. Salah himself had previously defended Alexander-Arnold when he was booed by fans following his departure, calling the reaction “harsh.” When Alexander-Arnold returned to Anfield with Madrid, he faced a hostile reception.
Before that reunion, he told Prime Video Sport that several ex-teammates, including Salah, had messaged him jokingly after the Champions League draw. “Robbo, Mo and Ibou all texted me,” he said. “Everyone knew this fixture was destined to happen.”
Former captain Jordan Henderson also showed support for Salah by liking his latest post with a heart emoji, while ex-defender Dejan Lovren took a stronger stance, urging him to “fight against injustice with all your strength.”
Salah is set to join Egypt for the Africa Cup of Nations after Liverpool’s weekend match against Brighton. By the time he returns, the January transfer window will be open — raising the possibility that the club could choose to sell him.
Both the Saudi Pro League and Major League Soccer have been linked as potential destinations for the forward.
