Three Clubs Eye Mohamed Salah as Liverpool Dismiss ‘Unthinkable’ Decision
Three clubs are now said to be vying for Mohamed Salah’s signature as uncertainty grows over his Liverpool future following his explosive interview.
On Saturday evening, Liverpool’s slump continued after they squandered 2-0 and 3-2 leads, eventually drawing 3-3 with Leeds United at Elland Road.
Ao Tanaka’s stoppage-time equaliser added even more pressure on Arne Slot, who is struggling to turn results around.
After the match, Salah — benched for the third game in a row — vented his frustration in the mixed zone.
The Egyptian star admitted he was deeply unhappy, claiming he has “no relationship” with Slot and accusing Liverpool of “throwing him under the bus”.
Salah said:
*”I’m sitting on the bench for 90 minutes — I think that’s the third time. It’s the first time in my career and I’m very disappointed. I’ve done so much for this club, everyone has seen that over the years, especially last season.
Being left on the bench… I don’t know why. It feels like the club has thrown me under the bus. That’s how it seems. Someone clearly wants me to take all the blame.”*
Following his remarks, reports suggest Salah could be on the move in January.
According to The Athletic, Saudi giants Al Hilal and MLS sides San Diego FC and Chicago Fire are potential destinations.
The report notes that Chicago Fire previously attempted to sign Salah before he renewed his Liverpool deal last April — and may try again.
Meanwhile, Al Hilal are financially capable of presenting a serious offer to Liverpool.
Amid the turmoil, The Athletic adds that despite the poor run of results, Liverpool have no intention of sacking Arne Slot simply because a player has publicly challenged a selection decision.
The report states that Slot still has the backing of FSG, and dismissing a manager over a dispute with even a legendary player would be “unthinkable”.
Slot is expected to address the media on Monday evening ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League showdown with Inter Milan at the San Siro on Tuesday.
Whether Salah will travel with the team remains uncertain.
