Terry Hits Back with Strong Message After Salah’s Liverpool Outburst
Chelsea and England icon John Terry has weighed in strongly on Mohamed Salah’s explosive interview, which has plunged Liverpool into an awkward position heading into the new year. Salah’s claims that he has been “thrown under the bus” and that his relationship with manager Arne Slot has collapsed have raised big questions about both of their futures.
After being left on the bench for the full 90 minutes in Liverpool’s 3-3 draw at Leeds United—a result that means the champions have just two wins in their last 10 league games—Salah didn’t hide his anger.
“I can’t believe I sat on the bench for 90 minutes,” he said. “I’m extremely disappointed. I’ve given so much to this club over the years, especially last season. Now I’m on the bench and I don’t know why. It feels like I’ve been thrown under the bus. Someone clearly wants me to take all the blame.
“I’ve always said I had a good relationship with the manager, and suddenly that’s gone. I don’t know why, but it feels like someone doesn’t want me here anymore.”
John Terry Backs Salah After Explosive Comments
Although Salah and Terry only briefly crossed paths at Chelsea, the former Blues captain built his reputation on loyalty and respect—so many expected him to criticise Salah for speaking out so publicly.
Instead, on TikTok, Terry chose to defend him.
“Has he been made a scapegoat by the Liverpool manager? I think he’d admit he’s not been at his best this season, but I also agree with him. He has been made a bit of a scapegoat. A lot of Liverpool players have been out of form.
“And leaving him out—let’s be honest, if anyone can win you a game, it’s him. That’s a huge decision from the manager. When you’re dealing with experienced players, you have to bring them into the office, explain the reasons, and show respect.”
Terry added that Salah’s claim of having “no relationship” with Slot makes it clear those conversations never took place, leading to Salah’s public frustration after the match.
Salah Could Leave in January
Thirteen clubs are already being linked with moves for Salah in the January window following his outburst. Saudi giants Al-Ittihad and Al-Nassr, along with Serie A champions Napoli, are reportedly monitoring developments closely.
With Salah due to join Egypt for AFCON duty on December 15, his final two Liverpool games may be approaching.
If this is the end, it would close a historic era. Since joining in 2017, Salah has played 420 games, scored 250 goals, and delivered a Champions League and two Premier League titles—cementing his place among Liverpool’s all-time greats. But Liverpool’s leadership is known for backing their manager, and they may now feel the time has come for Salah to move on.
