Fabrizio Romano: Liverpool Officials Respond to Mohamed Salah’s Remarks

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah recently spoke out about the club and manager Arne Slot following their draw with Leeds United, and Fabrizio Romano has revealed how the club reacted to his comments.

Salah has been on the bench for Liverpool’s last three matches, a decision by Slot following the Egyptian’s underwhelming start to the season. Liverpool have struggled overall, with or without him, and Salah’s recent remarks have sparked controversy.

The Reds endured another frustrating result over the weekend as Leeds scored a last-minute equaliser to draw 3-3. Liverpool currently sit ninth in the Premier League, and with Salah publicly questioning his relationship with the manager, tensions are unlikely to ease soon.

Liverpool ‘Shocked’ by Salah’s Comments
After the Leeds game, Salah expressed disbelief over his situation, implying he felt the club had undermined him.

> “I can’t believe it, I’m very disappointed. I’ve done so much for this club, as everyone can see, especially last season. To be on the bench, I don’t know why. I feel like the club is throwing me under the bus. That’s how I feel.”

Romano discussed the situation on his YouTube channel, noting Liverpool were ‘shocked’ by Salah’s statements. He explained:

> “At the club, they are quite shocked by these comments. But it’s complicated when a player like Mohamed Salah is benched for three consecutive games. He said in the interview that he’s not used to this uncertainty—he doesn’t know whether he’s starting, and no one has explained it to him. He stayed humble but clearly wants clarification.”

Salah Must Address His Form
If Salah had been benched despite strong performances, his frustration would be understandable. However, given his disappointing season so far, his public remarks appear poorly timed and unhelpful.

Liverpool are already in a challenging position under Slot, and Salah’s comments haven’t eased matters. With the January transfer window approaching, it will be interesting to see whether the club takes any action regarding his future, even though he recently signed a new contract.
