“Difficult to imagine…” – What insiders are now saying about Salah’s future after his recent spell on the Liverpool bench.

 

 

 

The long-term future of Mo Salah has once again become a talking point after he was left out of Liverpool’s starting lineup for their last two games.

The winger didn’t feature at all in the 2-0 win over West Ham last weekend, and although he came on at half-time during the 1-1 draw with Sunderland on Wednesday, he couldn’t add to his five goals this season. Jamie Redknapp has cautioned that the 33-year-old won’t settle for a reduced role at Anfield if being benched starts to become a regular occurrence. Meanwhile, Alex Crook reported (via talkSPORT) that Saudi Pro League clubs are preparing another attempt to lure Salah next summer.

On Thursday, Mark Brus of the Daily Briefing revealed what he’s been told by sources close to the Liverpool dressing room. One anonymous insider admitted:
“If things don’t change, it’s difficult to imagine Salah staying. He’s not pleased with the situation. He’ll stay professional, but I can’t see him accepting six more months on the bench — especially with interest already there.”

The report further suggested that while Salah remains highly respected by his teammates, some within the squad feel the team appears more balanced when he doesn’t start.

With Liverpool having already played twice in the past five days — and two more games coming in the next five — rotation is unavoidable. It wouldn’t be surprising if the No.11 returns to the starting lineup against Leeds, a team he has scored nine times against in just six matches.

Saudi clubs may be eager to sign him for a short spell, but we don’t expect Salah to push for a move any time soon, even if he’s no longer guaranteed a starting spot.

One thing feels certain: the Egyptian King still has a major role to play in Liverpool’s season.
