Guglielmo Vicario seeking to leave Tottenham following fan backlash

Guglielmo Vicario is reportedly considering leaving Tottenham after the negative reaction he received from supporters.

The goalkeeper was booed by Spurs fans during the loss to Fulham, where his misjudged clearance directly led to Harry Wilson scoring into an empty net early in the game. The backlash sparked frustration from Pedro Porro at full-time and online criticism about how players are being treated, while manager Thomas Frank stirred controversy by saying the boos came from people who weren’t “true fans.”

According to Gazzetta dello Sport in Italy, Vicario is now weighing up a departure, believing the current atmosphere around him makes it the right moment to leave the Premier League. Frank, however, reportedly has no plans to drop the 29-year-old.

Another report from Gazzetta claims Vicario has already set his sights on returning to Serie A, with Inter his preferred destination. But with three years left on his contract—worth around £2.5m annually—and Spurs valuing him at roughly £30m, the move may be complicated. Fabio Paratici’s return to Tottenham’s sporting department also isn’t seen as helpful from Inter’s perspective.

An exit may be unavoidable
If Vicario is leaning toward a move, it likely accelerates a process the club were already considering. Despite handling criticism better than some, Spurs may still feel an upgrade is required to reach their long-term ambitions.

Opponents have increasingly targeted Vicario with high balls into crowded areas—highlighting a known vulnerability despite his strong shot-stopping ability. Losing him in January would be highly disruptive unless there’s a managerial change before then, but a summer departure now appears very possible.
