Unusual internal talks are now playing a major role in determining Slot’s fate at Anfield, a new report claims.

 

 

 

 

Liverpool’s situation has deteriorated to the point where issues off the pitch are now influencing the wider conversation about Arne Slot.

 

Lewis Steele of Mail Sport reports that the challenges facing the head coach extend from the training ground all the way back to his hometown of Bergentheim in the Dutch Bible Belt.

 

Steele’s piece details how the 47-year-old has relied heavily on those closest to him during a spell in which Liverpool have lost nine of their last twelve matches.

 

The article portrays his father, Arend — a retired schoolteacher — as a demanding presence who last season frequently called with sharp questions like, “Why did you make that substitution?” or, “How did you only win 2-1?” Slot would apparently “smirk” as his father told him, “That performance wasn’t exciting enough, son.” According to the report, their conversations have recently taken a different tone, with Slot admitting: “As a dad, he knows how tough things are for me… He’s more supportive now than when we’re winning.”

 

Steele also writes that senior players in the dressing room are “shellshocked” by the team’s form. Virgil van Dijk, Mo Salah, Andy Robertson, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo are said to be searching for answers but struggling to understand the sudden decline.

 

Questions are being asked outside the club, too. Jamie Carragher has warned that “anything fewer than seven points will make an already unacceptable situation untenable” ahead of matches against West Ham, Sunderland and Leeds. Steele notes that just weeks ago the discussion centred on when Slot would sign a new deal, not whether his job was in danger. The slump has now shifted attention onto performances, team selections and mentality.

 

The report highlights indicators of growing unrest, including an online poll of 7,000 fans where 71% voted “Slot out”, as well as empty seats and boos after the PSV match.

 

Despite the pressure, the club’s hierarchy is reportedly still backing Slot and believe he has “credit in the bank”, though the next three Premier League fixtures are expected to determine whether Liverpool steady themselves or move closer to a decision no one anticipated two months ago.

 

Slot does still have supporters. Thomas Frank has said, “Arne is clearly an unbelievable coach… he will 1000% find a way out,” offering a stark contrast to the scepticism described by Steele.

 

Steele concludes that this is the most pivotal week of Slot’s career — and that last season’s Premier League triumph will not protect him if results don’t improve.
