Top journalist rubbishes rumours that Liverpool have approached the 38-year-old manager — calling the reports pure nonsense.
Reports circulating in Europe suggesting that Liverpool have approached a possible successor to Arne Slot have been quickly rubbished as “nonsense.”
The Dutch manager is experiencing his first major slump since arriving at Anfield, losing eight of his last eleven games across all competitions and seeing the defending champions slide to 12th in the Premier League table just a third of the way through the season.
Despite the poor run, both Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher have publicly backed the 47-year-old, and Fabrizio Romano also reaffirmed on Monday that the Liverpool hierarchy fully support their current head coach.
Claims from Germany within the last day alleged that sporting director Richard Hughes had contacted Volker Struth — the representative of German national team boss Julian Nagelsmann. But on Tuesday, Mail Sport’s Dominic King moved swiftly to shut down those rumours on X, stating: “Talk about Julian Nagelsmann being a contender to replace Slot: nonsense. He wasn’t a candidate to replace Klopp and Liverpool aren’t looking to change their head coach.”
With strong sources like Romano stressing that Slot still has the club’s confidence, any talk of Liverpool preparing a replacement amid recent struggles appears unfounded.
FSG also kept faith with Jurgen Klopp during a difficult spell in his second season, and that patience eventually paid off with a haul of major trophies. While Nagelsmann may attract interest after next summer’s World Cup — when his contract with Germany ends — there’s no realistic suggestion he’ll be heading to Anfield any time soon.
For now, Liverpool are not entertaining discussions about potential successors. Slot remains firmly in position until his contract expires in June 2027 — and could even extend that if he returns to last season’s form.
The manager will hope to quickly turn things around, starting with tomorrow night’s Champions League clash against PSV Eindhoven, but reliable reports confirm that FSG have no plans to part ways with him in the near future.
