Liverpool step up their hunt for their priority January signing as a formal bid goes in.

Liverpool have reportedly tabled an official offer to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi ahead of the January transfer window, according to a reliable source on X.

 

The reigning Premier League champions are said to have submitted a £25 million bid plus add-ons as they seek to reinforce their backline midway through a disappointing campaign. Arne Slot’s side have struggled defensively, conceding 20 goals in their first 12 league games — the highest among the top 12 teams — and their alarming run of six defeats in the last seven matches has pushed them into the bottom half of the table.

 

In a bid to halt the slump, Liverpool are planning to use the winter transfer window to rebuild depth and resolve the issues troubling the squad. The inconsistent performances of Ibrahima Konaté and Virgil van Dijk have been heavily scrutinized, with Konaté’s contract situation and Van Dijk’s apparent decline adding urgency to the search for a new centre-back.

 

While a Premier League title challenge now appears unlikely, the Reds are still alive in the Champions League and FA Cup — competitions where a defensive upgrade could make a vital impact.
