Liverpool Make Managerial Enquiry as Doubts Grow Over Arne Slot’s Future

Liverpool have reportedly approached a high-profile manager as uncertainty continues to grow around Arne Slot’s position at the club.

 

Slot is now under intense pressure after suffering his sixth Premier League defeat of the campaign on Saturday. Liverpool’s latest blow came in a 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest at Anfield, leaving the Reds with only 18 points from 12 matches and sitting in the bottom half of the table. Their hopes of retaining their Premier League title are effectively gone.

 

Following the defeat, Fabrizio Romano issued an update on Slot’s situation, revealing what he knows about the manager’s future. Should Liverpool choose to part ways with Slot, the club would be forced to pay a significant compensation fee due to his contract running until 2027.

 

Several candidates have already been linked to the role, and a new contender has now emerged. According to Bayern Space — the same outlet that first reported Florian Wirtz’s move to Liverpool — sporting director Richard Hughes has contacted Julian Nagelsmann’s agent to explore his potential availability.

 

Nagelsmann’s agent, Volker Struth, has strong ties with Bayern Munich because of the manager’s ongoing connections with the German club. Bayern are said to be aware that Liverpool recently reached out for early discussions. These talks were described as informal and precautionary, aimed at understanding Nagelsmann’s long-term plans should Liverpool decide to dismiss Slot.

 

However, Hughes has reportedly been told that Nagelsmann will not leave Germany before next summer’s World Cup under any circumstances. Still, depending on how Germany perform, an early departure from his contract could be possible for a club with Liverpool’s prestige.

 

Adding to the intrigue, Jurgen Klopp is believed to be quietly advising Liverpool to move for Nagelsmann, and sources suggest he could also be considered as Germany’s next manager.

 

If Nagelsmann were to take over at Liverpool, he might be able to revive the form of Florian Wirtz, who has struggled to adapt since his £116 million arrival. Wirtz, who excelled under Nagelsmann in the national team setup, has failed to make an impact in the Premier League so far.

 

Nagelsmann has publicly backed the 22-year-old, insisting he has been let down by the team around him.

“Liverpool could also help him by finishing some of the chances he creates,” Nagelsmann said. “They just don’t seem to like shooting.”
