Old Feud Reignites as Carragher Targets Salah Once Again

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has sparked fresh controversy after launching a sharp and personal criticism of Mohamed Salah’s behaviour off the pitch.

 

Carragher accused the Egyptian forward of avoiding media responsibilities during difficult moments and only choosing to speak publicly when it benefits him personally. His remarks came after Liverpool’s recent poor run of form, where he suggested Salah — one of the team’s most senior figures — is not showing leadership away from the field.

 

Speaking on Monday Night Football, Carragher said:

 

Virgil van Dijk repeatedly fronts the media after defeats, as a captain should.

 

Other senior players should also be stepping up — and Salah isn’t one of them.

 

He claimed Salah speaks publicly only when he wins awards or when contract negotiations are involved.

 

Carragher insisted that someone of Salah’s stature and legacy should be “speaking for the team,” not leaving it all to the captain.

 

 

This criticism adds to a long-running pattern of Carragher singling out Salah.

Last season, he publicly attacked him during a contract dispute and again over a cryptic social media message about the same issue — prompting Salah to accuse Carragher of being “obsessed” with him.

 

Fans were quick to defend Salah, slamming Carragher on social media for inaccurate claims. Many supporters pointed out that Salah has spoken up many times during difficult moments and has consistently shown leadership through both words and performances.

 

Some fans even suggested Carragher’s constant targeting of Salah reflects a deeper fixation, quoting Ian Wright’s sentiment that certain people “aren’t ready for an Arab superstar dominating English football.”

 

Supporters also noted that Carragher ignored other senior figures such as Robertson, Alisson, and van Dijk in his criticism — choosing instead to focus yet again on Salah.
