Tottenham target 28-year-old eager for Premier League return

Tottenham Hotspur have renewed their interest in a seasoned former Premier League midfielder, a player they previously pursued during the summer transfer window.
While Spurs are reportedly prioritizing the signing of a high-quality wide forward in January, several central midfielders have also been linked to the club in recent weeks. Now, reports suggest the North London side could offer a route back to England for a player who left the Premier League for the Saudi Pro League in 2023.
Tottenham inquire about Ruben Neves
Spurs were reported to have shown interest in Ruben Neves during the summer, and it seems Thomas Frank’s squad have revived their pursuit of the ex-Wolves midfielder ahead of January. According to Fichajes, Neves is keen to return to the Premier League and is seeking “an ambitious project that guarantees regular playing time.”

Tottenham have formally made inquiries about the 28-year-old, whose Premier League experience, vision, and leadership qualities reportedly appeal to the club. Neves is ready to leave Al-Hilal in January, but Spurs face competition from two other Premier League sides.
Man United and Newcastle leading the race
Fichajes report that Manchester United and Newcastle United have also expressed interest in Neves, currently positioning them as the frontrunners to secure his signature. United view him as a player who can “provide balance” to their midfield, while Newcastle have identified him as a “priority signing” to bolster squad depth in January.
The main hurdle for all three clubs remains Neves’ substantial salary, with the Portugal international reportedly earning over €400,000 per week (more than £350,000).
