“Liverpool Eye Five Manager Candidates Amid Growing Pressure on Slot”

Amid growing pressure on Arne Slot following another heavy defeat, a list of managers reportedly admired by Liverpool has come to light.

The Reds suffered a 3-0 home loss to Nottingham Forest on Saturday, leaving them with just one win in their last seven Premier League matches. This poor run has dropped the champions to 11th in the table, 11 points behind leaders Arsenal. Slot took responsibility for the latest defeat, intensifying scrutiny after over £400 million was invested in new signings over the summer.

Slot is contracted until 2027, meaning he would be entitled to a substantial payout if Liverpool decided to part ways. Bookmakers have made former manager Jürgen Klopp the favorite to replace him, should the club choose to make a change.

Currently, there is no confirmed shortlist for Slot’s successor, and he is reportedly still backed by the club. However, when Liverpool were considering Klopp’s replacement in 2024, they evaluated several candidates besides Slot.

Earlier this month, Daily Mail journalist Lewis Steele shared a Q&A in which he listed potential managerial contenders for Liverpool. While he emphasized that Slot still had the club’s backing, he shared the insights “for fun.”

Liverpool had previously shown interest in Ruben Amorim and Slot, as well as five other coaches. These included Sebastian Hoeness (Stuttgart), who led his team to second place in the Bundesliga, Michel (Girona), who qualified his side for the Champions League for the first time, Roberto De Zerbi (then at Brighton, later Marseille), Ernesto Valverde (on his second stint at Athletic Club), and the experienced Luciano Spalletti, who recently returned to Juventus after Igor Tudor’s departure.

Despite the ongoing crisis, Fabrizio Romano reported that Liverpool “are not in talks” with any other manager. The board, however, wants to see improved results and performances, expecting much more from Slot and his squad.

Liverpool aim to respond when they return to Champions League action against PSV at Anfield on Wednesday.
