Liverpool star blasted after delivering a ‘nightmare’ display in defeat to Nottingham Forest.
Liverpool fans had plenty to say after one of their players delivered what many described as a “nightmare” showing in the Reds’ 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest.
The defeat marked Liverpool’s second Premier League setback at Anfield this season, with Sean Dyche’s well-drilled Forest side outmuscling Arne Slot’s team throughout the contest.
Despite fielding big names such as Alexander Isak, Mohamed Salah and a returning Alisson, Liverpool struggled badly with Forest’s physical approach, particularly on the counter. Murillo put the visitors ahead in the 33rd minute, with some supporters arguing Dan Ndoye obstructed Alisson’s line of sight, but the goal was upheld.
According to the Premier League Match Centre, Ndoye “did not make an action that impacted an opponent”.
Forest found the net again moments later, but Igor Jesus’ finish was chalked off for handball—a call confirmed by VAR, which deemed the touch “accidental”. Dyche’s men, however, doubled their lead right after the restart when Nicolo Savona converted Neco Williams’ cutback, stunning the home crowd.
As Liverpool chased the game and left more space at the back, Forest struck again with 11 minutes remaining, Morgan Gibbs-White sealing a memorable third in front of a jubilant away end of around 3,000 fans.
Very few Liverpool players emerged with credit after such a flat overall display, but supporters singled out centre-back Ibrahima Konaté for particular criticism. The France international was substituted at half-time for Hugo Ekitike after a rough first 45 minutes.
Fans didn’t hold back on social media:
One wrote: “Konaté is among the worst defenders in the league this season. Not many regular starters have been worse.”
Another added: “Konaté was a complete mess in the first half. We need Guéhi in on January 1st and forget about renewing Konaté if this is what he’s offering.”
A third claimed: “Konaté has often been worse than Lovren this season. Honestly.”
A fourth said: “Konaté should be dropped at this point—he’s been genuinely catastrophic. Every goal we concede seems to involve him.”
James Pearce of The Athletic also described the centre-back’s first-half display as a “nightmare”.
Konaté has long been linked with a possible transfer to Real Madrid, and with his Liverpool contract expiring in June 2026, he becomes eligible to negotiate a pre-contract with the Spanish giants in January.
