Fabrizio Romano has delivered a major update on the future of Liverpool manager Arne Slot following the Reds’ crushing 3-0 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday.
Liverpool had shown signs of progress with big wins over Aston Villa and Real Madrid at Anfield, but they were comfortably outclassed at the Etihad in Pep Guardiola’s 1000th game as a manager. Erling Haaland broke the deadlock after an earlier missed penalty, with Nico Gonzalez and Jeremy Doku adding long-range goals. Virgil van Dijk had a goal controversially disallowed for an offside call involving Andy Robertson, and Liverpool failed to register a shot on target until the 75th minute.
The defeat leaves Liverpool eighth in the Premier League table—eight points adrift of Arsenal after 11 matches. Having lost seven of their last ten games in all competitions despite a massive £446 million summer outlay on players like Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, pressure on Slot has intensified. City fans even taunted him with “sacked in the morning” chants.
Despite this slump, Romano insists Liverpool’s hierarchy remains firmly behind Slot. In his latest YouTube update, he stated:
> “Liverpool are going through a difficult moment, but the club’s stance is clear—they continue to fully back Arne Slot. There’s no contact with any other coach or agent. The board still believes Slot is the right man to lead and fix the situation.”
Slot, who signed a three-year deal in 2024, led Liverpool to the Premier League title in his debut season. After the international break, the Reds will face Nottingham Forest at Anfield on November 22, followed by crucial games against PSV and West Ham later in the month.
