Romano hits out, claiming a January departure for a Liverpool player is becoming inevitable.

Fabrizio Romano has shared fresh insight into the uncertain future of Liverpool winger Federico Chiesa.

 

Chiesa began the season strongly, often influencing games when introduced from the bench. However, regular minutes under Arne Slot have been hard to come by. The ex-Juventus star was close to leaving Anfield in the summer, but ultimately chose to stay and fight for his place.

 

So far, that decision hasn’t paid off. Despite Slot valuing his performances and attitude, Chiesa’s efforts haven’t translated into consistent game time. Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo remain Slot’s preferred wide options, and even during Liverpool’s recent dip in form, Chiesa has struggled to earn minutes.

 

If his situation doesn’t improve, a January departure is possible. Romano revealed on his Here We Go podcast that he wouldn’t be surprised if Serie A clubs return for Chiesa in the winter window. He explained:

 

> “It’s been a strange start for Chiesa. Early in the summer, the plan was to leave, but things changed with Arne Slot and the club’s management. Chiesa genuinely wants to finish the season at Liverpool before making a decision. When he says he wants to stay and fight for his place, he means it.

 

But of course, he needs to play. If that doesn’t happen, I wouldn’t be surprised if Italian clubs try again in January. For now, both Liverpool and Chiesa want to continue together, so a January move won’t be easy — but interest is there, and the next two months of game time will be key.”

 

 

 

Although Chiesa’s preference is to remain at Anfield, the lack of minutes could soon force him to reconsider. He is eager to earn his place back in Italy’s national team under Gennaro Gattuso. With the World Cup just a year away, securing more playing time is critical.

 

Many fans have grown fond of Chiesa’s impact and energy, but from a personal career standpoint, the winger is frustrated with how things have unfolded. Slot has not fully utilised him this season, missing ideal opportunities to integrate him into the team despite others struggling for form.
