Liverpool have confirmed that their Legends team will face Borussia Dortmund Legends at Anfield in March 2026, with all proceeds once again going to support the LFC Foundation, per Liverpoolfc.com.
The occasion will come nearly 10 years after the unforgettable 4–3 Europa League comeback against Dortmund in 2016 — a night that remains one of the most iconic in the club’s modern era. This fixture carries a strong sense of friendship and shared history between the clubs, although this time, the main talking point may be about who won’t be involved rather than who will.
Funds raised will benefit both the LFC Foundation and the BVB Foundation, helping to support projects focused on health, education, and employment across both communities.
Matt Parish, CEO of the LFC Foundation, said: “Our annual legends match is always a highlight, and we’re thrilled to welcome BVB to Anfield.
“These games not only honour the legacy of our clubs and the footballing heroes of the past, but they also help us continue delivering life-changing work in the community.”
Tickets have been released to season-ticket holders and All Red Members, with general sale starting on Friday, November 7. Naturally, one question will be on every Liverpool fan’s mind: Will Jürgen Klopp attend?
As the 58-year-old serves as honorary ambassador for the LFC Foundation, it would seem fitting for him to be involved in some way — even if only to present the cheque or receive applause from the Kop.
Klopp himself said last year: “The LFC Foundation does an incredible job for the community… I’m proud to continue supporting their work.”
However, his presence is not guaranteed, due to the tension surrounding his current ties with his former club. His decision to take a role with Red Bull caused significant backlash in Dortmund, with one journalist saying some BVB fans branded him “dead to me”.
That strained relationship could make a reunion uncomfortable, despite the huge affection still felt for him at Anfield.
Regardless, the event is set to be a memorable one. Two clubs connected by ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ and one iconic comeback are set to reunite once again at the ground where football miracles happen.
