Cryptic message from Fabrizio Romano adds weight to Liverpool contract whispers.

Fabrizio Romano hints at new Szoboszlai contract talks

Fabrizio Romano has sparked speculation on social media about a possible new contract for a Liverpool star.

On Thursday, The Athletic’s Gregg Evans revealed that early discussions have begun between Liverpool and Dominik Szoboszlai’s camp regarding a potential contract extension. However, club insiders have downplayed the likelihood of an imminent agreement. Szoboszlai’s current deal runs until June 2028, and he reportedly earns around £120,000 a week.

After that report was posted, a Liverpool fan account on X summarized the news. Romano then replied with only two emojis — a wink and a film frame — which many took as a subtle but positive sign that there’s truth to the situation.

With The Athletic providing the initial report and Romano appearing to confirm it, it seems likely that Liverpool have started moving behind the scenes to secure Szoboszlai’s long-term future.

While there are other contracts at Anfield that are more urgent — Ibrahima Konaté and Andy Robertson both have less than a year remaining — it’s still encouraging that FSG are acting early to avoid future drama.

Szoboszlai excelled in Tuesday’s win over Real Madrid, providing the free kick that led to Alexis Mac Allister’s goal. Virgil van Dijk praised him heavily after the match, and sporting director Richard Hughes appears keen to avoid any repeat of last season’s contract saga by opening talks well before the 2028 expiry.
