A member of Liverpool’s 2019/20 Premier League–winning squad has returned to England as he searches for a new club — and his latest move may surprise some fans on Merseyside.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, signed by Jürgen Klopp in 2017, enjoyed a successful six-year spell at Anfield, winning the Premier League, Champions League, Club World Cup and both domestic cups.
After leaving Liverpool in 2023, he joined Besiktas, but the Turkish side attempted to reduce his salary this summer. The two parties eventually parted ways in August, leaving him as a free agent.
Now, Oxlade-Chamberlain has been spotted back in England — but not at Liverpool.
Sky Sports, via GOAL, showed footage of the midfielder training with Arsenal’s under-21 team. He previously spent six years at Arsenal before moving to Liverpool, and is currently using their facilities to stay fit as he considers his next move.
Although it’s unusual to see a former Liverpool player training with a rival club, it doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll re-sign for Arsenal. Any return would likely be similar to Jay Spearing’s role at Liverpool, where he trains with the academy as an overage player while working as a coach.
Oxlade-Chamberlain delivered some standout moments at Anfield, including his powerful Champions League goal against Manchester City and his long-range strike in the 5–5 League Cup tie against Arsenal in 2019.
At 32, he still has time to continue his career at a high level. Whatever comes next, his contributions during Klopp’s era mean he’ll always be welcomed back by Liverpool supporters.
