Liverpool: Fans demand Arne Slot end his strange treatment of star player following Palace defeat

Arne Slot’s handling of one particular Liverpool player is beginning to frustrate many supporters. The Reds have stumbled out of the blocks this season and currently sit seventh in the Premier League after losing four of their first nine matches, making their chances of defending the title look slim.

Their struggles aren’t limited to the league either. Liverpool were knocked out of the EFL Cup on Tuesday night after a 3–0 loss to Crystal Palace at Anfield.

Slot rotated heavily for that match, making ten changes to the team that lost 3–2 to Brentford days earlier, with Milos Kerkez the only consistent starter to retain his place. The manager instead fielded mostly fringe players and youngsters, with Federico Chiesa one of the biggest names included.

Although the night ended in disappointment, Chiesa left a strong impression. Many fans are now calling for him to be given a bigger role.

“Federico Chiesa must start this weekend”

Chiesa was handed a rare start in the EFL Cup tie, his second of the campaign after previously starting against Southampton in an earlier round. Even though he has largely been used as a rotational player, he has still registered two goals and three assists in just 10 appearances—prompting supporters to question why Slot continues to overlook him.

Fans took to social media platform X to express their frustration. One wrote:
“I haven’t seen this level of hunger from anyone else in the squad besides Szoboszlai.”
Another posted:
“How has Slot kept him out of the starting XI when we’ve lost five of the last six?”

A third fan stated bluntly:
“Chiesa needs to start this weekend. End of.”

Others echoed similar sentiments:
“What more does Chiesa have to do to start every week?”
and
“Chiesa is an absolute baller.”

Given Liverpool’s poor form and the fact that Chiesa is already joint-third for combined goals and assists despite limited minutes, his case for a regular starting spot continues to grow. Whether Slot decides to reward him with that role remains to be seen.
