Zinedine Zidane has already made his feelings about Liverpool known amid growing rumours linking him with a move to Anfield.
Back in September, following a 2–1 Carabao Cup win over Southampton, everything seemed to be going smoothly for Arne Slot and Liverpool. The Reds had opened the 2025/26 campaign with seven straight victories across all competitions.
However, just a month later, the situation has taken a dramatic turn. Liverpool have now suffered four consecutive defeats in the Premier League and were also beaten by Turkish giants Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League. Following their 3–2 loss to Brentford on Saturday night, pressure is beginning to mount on Slot, with an increasing number of supporters questioning whether he is the right man for the job.
Amid Liverpool’s ongoing struggles, betting odds have shifted sharply in favour of Zidane potentially taking charge. According to Betfair, Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner is currently the favourite at 3/1, followed by Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola at 4/1. Zidane ranks third with odds of 9/2, while Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann stands at 7/1, and a sensational Jurgen Klopp return is valued at 9/1.
Zidane has previously expressed admiration for Liverpool. The French legend once described Anfield as one of the best stadiums to play in, telling Real Madrid’s YouTube channel: “Liverpool. I also remember Manchester United.”
In 2021, ahead of facing Liverpool in the Champions League, Zidane called the Reds a “complete team,” saying: “They’re a complete team. People talk about their front three, and yes, they’re excellent, but I think their real strength is how solid they are as a unit. We’ll need to stay alert.”
However, Zidane has also admitted that language could be a challenge if he ever moved to England. Speaking to L’Équipe in 2022, he said: “I understand English, but I don’t fully master it. I know some coaches go to clubs without speaking the language, but I work differently.”
