Arne Slot’s Post-Match Remarks After Liverpool Loss Slammed as ‘Salty’

Arne Slot was labelled “insufferable” and “rattled” following his post-match interview after Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday.

The Premier League champions slumped to a fourth straight loss in all competitions, with Harry Maguire netting the decisive goal late on. Bryan Mbeumo had opened the scoring just two minutes in while Alexis Mac Allister was down injured, before Cody Gakpo equalised. Maguire’s header in the 84th minute sealed United’s first win at Anfield since 2016 and relieved some pressure on Ruben Amorim.

Slot now finds himself enduring the toughest spell of his Liverpool tenure, as the Reds remain winless since their Carabao Cup triumph over Southampton. After the latest setback, the Dutchman sparked controversy by accusing United of resorting to long balls and a deep defensive setup.

“It’s always hard to face a team that defends with a low block and mainly plays long balls,” Slot told Sky Sports. “It becomes even more difficult when you go 1-0 down within a minute, especially when one of your players is on the ground.

“If you told me before the game that against a team like that we’d create so many chances, I wouldn’t have expected us to lose. People forget how many opportunities we had in the first half when we were behind.”

However, Slot’s remarks didn’t sit well with supporters online, who felt he was deflecting blame rather than taking responsibility.

One fan on X wrote: “The guy is insufferable.”
Another added: “Rattled. Love it.”
A third commented: “Always making excuses and showing zero accountability.”
A fourth fumed: “I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Slot interview where he isn’t complaining about something.”
A final user summed up the mood: “Such a sore loser.”

Liverpool will aim to recover in midweek when they face Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League before visiting Brentford on Saturday evening.
