Just a minute into their Premier League clash at Anfield, Manchester United’s Bryan Mbeumo unleashed a brilliant opener, sparking controversy as referee Michael Oliver allowed play to continue despite Alexis Mac Allister lying injured on the ground with a head wound.
The goal came moments after a collision involving the Liverpool midfielder, with Mbeumo’s low shot beating Giorgi Mamardashvili. Sky Sports commentator Peter Drury noted, “The referee didn’t see the injury and was therefore obviously not able to stop the game.”
FA regulations require play to be halted for head injuries, leaving Liverpool fans and players furious as United took advantage of the Reds’ momentary disarray.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher condemned the call, stating, “He was down holding his head!”
Mac Allister, 26, received treatment and donned a protective helmet, while Mbeumo remained unbothered, capitalizing on defensive mistakes from Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté.
