Liverpool given early advantage as Manchester United duo miss training session

Liverpool could face a weakened Manchester United side this weekend, as reports indicate that two of Ruben Amorim’s key players were absent from training ahead of their visit to Anfield.

According to EPL Index, both Noussair Mazraoui and Lisandro Martinez missed United’s latest session at Carrington, putting their chances of featuring in serious doubt.

Mazraoui, who has been out since United’s 2-1 victory over Chelsea last month, was initially tipped to return after the international break. However, Sky Sports revealed that the Moroccan defender has yet to rejoin full training. Martinez, meanwhile, remains in rehabilitation following an ACL injury sustained in February.

This presents another major selection issue for Amorim, who may have to rely on academy players to fill in. Reports suggest several youngsters took part in the training session, highlighting the strain on United’s squad ahead of their clash with the reigning Premier League champions.

Captain Bruno Fernandes was also missing from training, though his absence was precautionary after featuring in Portugal’s 2-2 draw with Hungary — a match in which Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai scored a late equaliser, once again showcasing his influence on the international stage.

Arne Slot’s Liverpool also have injury concerns of their own. Alisson Becker remains out after suffering an injury against Galatasaray, while Ibrahima Konate’s condition is being monitored closely following his withdrawal from France duty due to a quad issue.

Ryan Gravenberch is another doubt, with James Pearce reporting that the Dutch midfielder will be evaluated for a hamstring problem after being substituted at halftime for the Netherlands last weekend.

Despite those fitness worries, Liverpool still boast the quality and squad depth to handle the situation, with players like Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak eager to impress and make their mark.

With United potentially missing key defensive options, Slot’s side will view this encounter as a golden opportunity to gain momentum ahead of a tough upcoming schedule.
