Major Giorgi Mamardashvili update as Liverpool release team news ahead of Manchester United clash

Giorgi Mamardashvili is expected to continue in goal for Liverpool against Manchester United on October 19, filling in for the injured Alisson Becker.

The Georgian goalkeeper will remain first-choice for the Reds’ upcoming matches, with Alisson sidelined by a hamstring injury until at least November. Sources told Football Insider (17 October) that Liverpool are calm about the situation, though the Brazilian will be eased back gradually due to the demanding winter schedule.

With Alisson’s contract running until 2027, this period represents a key opportunity for Mamardashvili to impress Arne Slot and potentially challenge for the long-term No.1 spot. Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, it was noted that the 25-year-old former Valencia keeper has a golden chance to prove he deserves a future as Liverpool’s main goalkeeper.

“Liverpool would love to have Alisson fit all season, but injuries happen,” the podcast explained. “That’s why they brought in Mamardashvili – not only as a reliable deputy but also someone who can push Alisson for the top spot. This is a huge opportunity for him to show he’s capable of being Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper.”

Despite Alisson’s recent injuries, there’s said to be no panic within the club. At 33 and under contract until 2027, he remains Arne Slot’s preferred No.1 when fit.
