Marc Guehi update from Oliver Glasner sends Liverpool into alert mode
Liverpool and several other clubs may have received a strong signal regarding a potential move for Marc Guehi in 2026.
The Reds were close to signing the Crystal Palace defender on transfer deadline day a few weeks ago, with a £35m fee reportedly agreed. However, Palace chairman Steve Parish blocked the deal at the last minute, as the FA Cup holders didn’t have time to secure a replacement.
Parish recently told talkSPORT that the south London club “probably” would have accepted the offer for their captain if they weren’t involved in the Conference League this season. Guehi’s contract runs out next June.
Ahead of Palace’s Premier League clash with Bournemouth on Friday, manager Oliver Glasner confirmed that Guehi has informed the club of his intention to leave Selhurst Park next year, despite being offered a new contract.
Glasner told Sky Sports: “I think Marc has already told us that he won’t sign a new contract, so he will leave next year. The club wanted him to stay and offered him a new deal, but he said, ‘No, I want to try something different,’ and that’s normal. For us, it’s about how we handle this situation and take the next step.”
With the manager openly confirming Guehi’s departure in 2026, expect Liverpool and other interested clubs to intensify efforts to secure the England international. From January, Guehi will be able to sign a pre-contract with overseas clubs, potentially giving Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich an edge over Premier League competitors.
Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol predicts the 25-year-old could end up at one of the LaLiga giants, though Liverpool shouldn’t be ruled out. Having come close to signing him in early September, Anfield clearly appeals to the centre-back, who could expect regular playing time given Liverpool’s recent defensive struggles and limited squad depth.
It will now fall to Reds sporting director Richard Hughes to use all his influence to persuade Guehi to choose the Premier League champions over top Spanish or German sides. With Glasner being so open about the situation, the race for Guehi’s signature is likely to heat up.
