Jurgen Klopp lands fresh role with German Football League while keeping Red Bull position

Former Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp has taken on a new position with the German Football League (DFL), adding to his current role within the Red Bull Group.

 

Sixteen months after his departure from Liverpool — where he handed the reins to Arne Slot — Klopp is stepping back into the football scene in a different capacity. The German tactician enjoyed a remarkable nine-year spell at Anfield, winning the Champions League in 2019 and ending the club’s 30-year wait for a Premier League title the following season.

 

Klopp also lifted the FA Cup and two League Cups during his time with the Reds but has not returned to coaching since leaving. Instead, he became Red Bull’s global head of football in January, overseeing clubs including RB Leipzig, Red Bull Salzburg, and New York Red Bulls.

 

Now, he will balance that role with a new responsibility at the DFL, which confirmed that Klopp has joined an expert panel focused on improving German football.

 

In a statement, the DFL explained: “The expert group will focus on areas such as the development and integration of young talents, as well as advancing club standards and structures. Initial findings will be reviewed by league committees in spring 2026 before being shared with all 36 clubs.”

 

DFL managing director Marc Lenz added: “We believe the financial, legal, and sporting foundations must align to keep the Bundesliga and German football strong and comp

etitive.”
