Ruben Amorim provides concerning Manchester United injury update before Liverpool showdown

Manchester United may have to make do without defender Noussair Mazraoui for Sunday’s clash with Liverpool, as manager Ruben Amorim admitted uncertainty over the Moroccan’s fitness.

 

The former Bayern Munich right-back has made just three appearances for United this season, his last coming in last month’s 2-1 victory over Chelsea. Amorim had hoped to reintegrate him either as a wing-back or within a back three, but offered no guarantees during his Friday press conference.

 

The match will also come too soon for Lisandro Martinez, who remains sidelined despite being close to a return. “Licha (Martinez) is close, almost back in team training,” Amorim said. “Mazraoui, I’m not sure yet. The rest of the guys, especially those coming back from international duty, are ready. But we have to manage their workload — some played far away, like in Japan.”

 

He added: “Diogo [Dalot] didn’t play in Portugal’s last match, so he’s been here already. Bruno [Fernandes] played 62 minutes; we gave him an extra day to recover. We’re trying to balance things so everyone is fresh and ready.”

 

Meanwhile, Liverpool boss Arne Slot provided positive updates on Ibrahima Konate and Ryan Gravenberch after both picked up minor knocks on international duty. Goalkeeper Alisson Becker, however, remains unavailable.

 

“Ryan is completely fit,” Slot said on Friday. “We still have two sessions left, but if you ask me now, he’s ready. Ibou [Konate] has rejoined training and should be fine as well. Alisson isn’t training yet, so he’s out — it’s hard to say exactly how long, but he won’t be available this weekend

or next.”
