“Somehow…” – Paul Scholes drops an early hint about his prediction for Liverpool vs Manchester United clash

Paul Scholes has wasted no time in sharing his thoughts ahead of Liverpool’s upcoming clash with Manchester United at Anfield — and Reds fans will be hoping his prediction proves accurate.

Despite the Premier League champions entering the October 19 fixture on the back of three straight defeats and some worrying performances, United’s inconsistency continues. The Red Devils only just climbed into the top half of the table after edging past Sunderland last weekend.

Ruben Amorim’s side have been heavily dependent on home results to stay afloat, having collected just a single point away from Old Trafford this season. It’s also been nearly ten years since United last won at Anfield.

Scholes fears the worst for Man United at Anfield
Speaking on The Overlap Fan Debate, Scholes admitted he’s dreading the trip to Liverpool and would gladly take a draw. “Ruben Amorim needs to get something at Anfield,” the 50-year-old said. “I’d be thinking about a draw — just finding a way to stop them scoring.

“That’s a completely different mindset from teams like Arsenal, who go there thinking about the title. United are in such a rut. I can’t even remember the last time they won a big game — maybe City last year.

“These players are so deep in a slump that it’s hard to believe they’ll turn it around. You almost expect them to go there and lose.”

Form suggests Liverpool win – but history says otherwise
On paper, Arne Slot’s men look favourites, boasting a perfect home record this season, while United have picked up only one point from nine on their travels. Still, recent Anfield encounters have been unpredictable — United drew their last two visits despite finishing well below Liverpool in both campaigns, and they even finished higher in the season Klopp’s side thrashed them 7–0.

Even so, Scholes’ admission that he’d settle for a draw highlights how far the balance of power has shifted towards Liverpool in recent years — a dynamic the Reds will be eager to underline in this fierce rivalry later this month.

If Liverpool finally produce a complete 90-minute performance, they should have too much quality for United, even if Amorim’s men showed flashes of improvement against Sunderland.
