Thiago reveals the one thing he found at Liverpool that was missing at Barcelona and Bayern Munich

In an interview with Coaches’ Voice, the former Reds midfielder spoke candidly about how his time under Jurgen Klopp shaped him both professionally and personally, describing Liverpool as the club that gave him the “perfect balance between dominance and hard work.”

“My spell at Liverpool included everything I’ve ever wanted in a football club,” Thiago said.
“The experience of fighting for every trophy, being dominant on the field, yet maintaining that identity as a hardworking, battling side — that’s what made it special.
It wasn’t about falling short of anything; it was about the effort you had to give every single day.”

He went on to praise Klopp as a “manager capable of turning any situation to the team’s advantage,” explaining that the German’s positivity and adaptability left a lasting mark on him.
“With Klopp, there are no bad moments — only situations that can be turned into something beneficial for the team,” he said.
“He created that flow of energy and direction that everyone followed.”

Now 34 and retired, Thiago has transitioned into coaching, joining Hansi Flick’s backroom staff at Barcelona — a move journalist Fabrizio Romano noted was “mutually desired.”

Liverpool fans will be touched by how warmly Thiago still speaks of the club — especially given his humorous claim once to Zlatan Ibrahimovic that he doesn’t speak English, but “Scouse.”

“Even while you’re still playing, you begin to see patterns, to help others,” he said. “That curiosity for coaching grows, and when the player fades, the teacher begins to emerge.”

Liverpool have a tradition of welcoming ex-players back in coaching or ambassadorial roles — and few fans would object if Thiago eventually returned in some capacity.

For now, he continues his journey in Spain, drawing on the lessons from a glittering career that took him through Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and finally to the club that, in his own words, gave him “everything I loved.”
