The experienced referee admitted there have been moments when he thought about quitting due to relentless abuse, revealing that his family no longer attends major matches after he was harassed by Roma fans at an airport.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Taylor described the culture around football as “archaic,” recalling his experiences from officiating top matches such as the FA Cup finals in 2017 and 2020, and the 2023 Europa League final between Sevilla and Roma. Following that heated encounter, he faced hostility from fans while returning home.
