A long and exasperating wait for clarity in English football may finally be drawing to a close — and no club has more invested in the outcome than Liverpool.
According to Miguel Delaney of The Independent, a verdict on Manchester City’s 115 alleged breaches of Premier League financial rules is now expected this month.
Such a decision would bring an end to a saga that has stretched on for nearly three years, overshadowing multiple title races. Pep Guardiola previously claimed that updates would arrive by February or March 2025 — a timeline that has long since passed.
The Independent reports that the recent resolution of the Associated Party Transaction (APT) case could have cleared the path for a conclusion to the main hearing, with senior Premier League officials now said to be “bracing themselves” for the long-awaited ruling.
For Liverpool, this isn’t merely about financial governance — it’s about justice in two of the most tightly contested title races in recent history.
The Reds finished a single point behind City in both 2018/19 and 2021/22, margins that still sting in light of what has since surfaced.
Earlier this year, Jürgen Klopp even joked that he’d “buy the beer” if Liverpool were ever awarded extra league titles after the case, quipping that supporters could “have a parade in my garden” if justice was served.
Klopp’s remarks capture the sentiment among Liverpool fans, who care deeply about the outcome — even if no one truly expects retrospective silverware.
Delaney’s report also emphasises that while the APT ruling helped clarify certain financial rules, the 115 charges against City remain an entirely separate judicial matter — one that could still reshape the competitive balance of the Premier League.

But after a wait stretching back to February 2023, it finally seems that the process may be reaching its end, with Premier League lawyers reportedly “locked away” finalising proceedings.
