Gary Neville was equally scathing in his post-match assessment, branding Liverpool “absolutely useless” as their season continues to unravel. After a last-minute loss to Crystal Palace and a midweek defeat to Galatasaray, another late collapse against Chelsea has raised serious questions about Arne Slot’s side.
Speaking on The Gary Neville Podcast, the Sky Sports pundit said:
> “Games are won by teams who show real intent. Liverpool obviously wanted to win, but after they scored, their performance was really disappointing.
Everyone’s been talking about Liverpool’s defensive issues, but that’s not why they lost today. It was their attacking players and midfielders — they were giving the ball away constantly. Gakpo, Salah, Wirtz — they were all wasteful. Wirtz looked lost in the final minutes when the game was there for the taking.”
Neville also singled out new signing Milos Kerkez for criticism, describing him as “like a baby” on the pitch.
> “Kerkez looks like a youth player right now — he’s talented, but he seems naïve, like he’s playing for the Under-21s. He’s losing 50-50s he should be winning.”
Meanwhile, off the pitch, fans were left baffled by Madonna’s unexpected appearance in the stands. The pop icon, reportedly worth £850 million, was spotted casually eating popcorn from a ziplock bag she appeared to have brought from home.
Neville joked: “What is she eating? Popcorn? She’s a legend — but she can’t be a Liverpool fan, surely!”
