Liverpool have received both a welcome boost and a surprise ahead of their weekend clash with Crystal Palace, as fresh Sky Sports footage revealed encouraging updates on Alexander Isak and the appearance of a promising young academy winger.
Isak steps up fitness work as Ekitike ruled out
Liverpool’s £125 million signing Alexander Isak has been steadily working on his match sharpness since arriving from Newcastle. The Swedish forward was once again spotted taking part in full training at the AXA Centre.
Sky Sports reported that Isak is “still building up his fitness” but confirmed he is actively involved in team sessions, a positive sign as he edges closer to full readiness.
His progress comes at a crucial time, with Hugo Ekitike unavailable due to suspension. The French striker received a second yellow card — and subsequent red — for taking his shirt off while celebrating during the Carabao Cup win over Southampton.
Ekitike later issued an apology on Instagram and is expected to face internal discipline from Arne Slot for the costly mistake. The forward has been in excellent form since joining Liverpool, with five goals and one assist in eight appearances. His absence leaves Slot relying on Isak or Federico Chiesa to lead the line at Selhurst Park.
Chiesa has been making a strong impression, having provided both assists in the Southampton victory. Sky Sports highlighted how the Italian is continuing to “play himself into a role” with his recent performances.
Academy talent Morrison joins senior training
Alongside the first-team regulars, journalist Lewis Bower spotted 18-year-old Kieran Morrison in the training footage, noting on X:
> “Kieran Morrison in first-team training ahead of Crystal Palace tomorrow. Briefly pictured.”
Morrison, who turned down interest from Wolves, Burnley, and several German clubs over the summer, is expected to sign a new contract with Liverpool soon.
He has already featured on the bench in the League Cup and remains with the senior squad while other academy players have returned to U21 duties, partly due to Giovanni Leoni’s ACL injury.
The young winger, known for his pace and creativity on the right flank, has impressed under Rob Page at youth level and continues to build his reputation.
With Isak pushing for full fitness and Ekitike sidelined, Morrison’s inclusion offers Arne Slot another intriguing option heading into a challenging match against Oliver Glasner’s Palace, who are unbeaten in their last 17 Premier League games.
