Arne Slot has rejected conspiracy theories suggesting Liverpool gain extra added time advantage.
Rival fans have accused officials of giving the Premier League leaders additional minutes in stoppage time, raising suspicions after Liverpool’s recent matches.
Following Everton’s 2-1 loss, David Moyes said he found it “really difficult” to believe only three minutes of extra time were added at Anfield.
Liverpool’s win kept their flawless start to the 2025/26 Premier League season intact, with five wins from five games.
Slot quickly backed the decision to allow just three minutes of added time and denied that Liverpool engaged in any time-wasting during the Merseyside derby.
He pointed out there were few incidents—only three substitutions, no injuries requiring treatment, and one goal scored—that would justify more stoppage time.
“The three minutes were absolutely correct because only three substitutions happened. We don’t waste time — sometimes unfortunately — and there was no injury treatment, plus a goal scored,” Slot told the club’s official website.
“In many other matches, when we need a goal, you’d see a lot more time-wasting, believe me.”
Fans accusing Liverpool of receiving special treatment are mistaken.
It’s understandable how repeated success can spark wild theories, but the idea that Liverpool is favored by referees is completely unfounded.
As Slot noted, if Liverpool gets extra time, it’s usually because their opponents are deliberately wasting time to hold on.
Many analyses have shown that historically, Liverpool have often been on the receiving end of tough calls from officials and VAR.
Sometimes, a team simply has the skill to influence the game late on or secure a win.
There are no conspiracies—Liverpool just have that level of quality.
