Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate may leave the club when his contract expires this summer, and the club is interested in signing Marc Guehi as his replacement.
The 25-year-old England international nearly joined Liverpool during the summer transfer window, and the Premier League champions are expected to pursue him again in either the January or summer transfer periods. Guehi has also been linked with a move to Real Madrid.
Marc Guehi is on Liverpool’s radar
Guehi’s contract runs until the summer of 2026, making him a potential affordable signing in the upcoming transfer window. If Crystal Palace refuse to sell him for a reasonable fee, he will be available on a free transfer at the end of the season.
According to Pete O’Rourke from Football Insider: “It still seems likely that Marc Guehi would be the frontrunner to join Liverpool as a new defender, probably on a free transfer next summer rather than in January, unless Palace significantly lower their asking price for the England international.”
Konate expected to leave
Konate’s contract also expires in the summer of 2026, and he has yet to agree on an extension with Liverpool. Real Madrid has been mentioned as a potential destination for the French defender. It remains to be seen whether he will commit to a long-term stay at Liverpool or seek a new challenge in La Liga.
Guehi could be an excellent alternative. He has consistently demonstrated his quality in the Premier League, and acquiring a player of his caliber on a free transfer would be a smart move.
At 25, Guehi is a dependable defender who is also highly skilled with the ball. Liverpool favors defenders who are comfortable playing out from the back, and the England international fits their style perfectly.
