Alan Shearer Questions Milos Kerkez’s Form at Liverpool
Alan Shearer has raised doubts about Milos Kerkez’s current form, claiming the Liverpool full-back hasn’t looked like the same player who impressed at Bournemouth last season. The Hungarian international started in Liverpool’s 2-1 derby win over Everton, but his performance left the former England striker concerned.
Kerkez, who joined Liverpool for £40 million this summer, made his fifth Premier League start under new manager Arne Slot on Saturday, contributing to the Reds’ fifth straight league win of the season. However, while fellow summer signing Hugo Ekitike continued to impress with another goal, Kerkez attracted criticism post-match.
Shearer pointed out that the 21-year-old is struggling to adapt to Liverpool’s system, suggesting his presence is disrupting the team’s defensive structure. Speaking to NBC Sports, Shearer observed that Kerkez looks unsure of his role, particularly in his positioning on the left flank:
> “Right now, Kerkez doesn’t look like the same player we saw at Bournemouth. Back then, he played with freedom, pushing forward confidently. At Liverpool, he seems hesitant—unsure whether to attack or stay back and support Van Dijk and Konaté.”
Kerkez has appeared in all seven of Liverpool’s matches across all competitions this season, including a substitute appearance in their midweek Champions League victory over Atletico Madrid. However, he’s yet to contribute a goal or assist—unlike his breakout 2024/25 campaign with Bournemouth, where he notched two goals and six assists.
Despite some individual concerns, Liverpool remain in top form. They lead the Premier League with 11 goals scored in five games and aim to maintain their unbeaten run next weekend against Crystal Palace.
The win over Everton also marked just the second time Liverpool have beaten their local rivals in five consecutive home league matches, a feat last achieved between 1933 and 1937.
Elsewhere in the squad, Cody Gakpo also came under fire for a below-par showing on the left wing, while record signing Alexander Isak featured from the bench.
