Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi has been the subject of transfer speculation in recent months.
He came close to leaving the club during the summer, even completing a medical with Liverpool. However, the move fell through at the last moment after Palace called off the transfer due to their inability to find a suitable replacement for the 25-year-old.
Now, it appears Guehi is reconsidering his interest in a future move to Liverpool. While the Premier League champions are expected to reignite their pursuit in the January window, a report from The Mirror suggests Guehi has informed his agent of a preference to join Real Madrid instead.
The defender is reportedly eyeing a free transfer to the Spanish giants. Real Madrid are in need of reinforcements in defence, and the England international would bring much-needed depth and quality. Given Madrid’s global stature, it’s understandable why Guehi would be drawn to such a move—few players would turn down the opportunity to play for what many consider the biggest club in world football.
This shift in stance is a major setback for Liverpool, who must now consider alternative defensive targets. With Virgil van Dijk nearing the latter stages of his career, Ibrahima Konaté approaching free agency in 2026, and Joe Gomez’s ongoing fitness concerns, the need for new defenders is growing.
Guehi would have been a valuable signing for Liverpool, making this development particularly disappointing for the Merseyside club.
