Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak make impressive first start together for Liverpool
Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak lined up together for Liverpool for the first time tonight, offering fans an exciting preview of what their partnership could bring to Anfield. Wirtz has started all six of the Reds’ matches so far this season, while Isak made his debut in the Champions League opener against Atletico Madrid.

The former Bayer Leverkusen star rounded Atletico keeper Jan Oblak, only for the move to unravel when Jeremie Frimpong mistimed his effort in front of goal. A clean strike would likely have added a third for the Reds, capping off a stunning team move.
Encouraging early signs for Liverpool’s new duo
Had Frimpong converted, it would’ve crowned a beautiful goal for Liverpool, who were dominant until Marcos Llorente pulled one back for the visitors just before halftime.
Still, the moment highlighted Wirtz’s ability to drive play forward and deliver with precision, as well as the early understanding developing between him and Isak. Despite some early criticism, Wirtz showed flashes of the quality he brings, and his link-up with Isak looks promising.
Both players are expected to contribute heavily in terms of goals and assists this season—and based on tonight’s showing, there’s every reason to believe they’ll live up to the hype.
