Liverpool look set to have nearly their entire squad available for their Champions League opener against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night. The Reds trained at the AXA Training Centre earlier today as they prepare to face Diego Simeone’s team, who will be missing key players like Julian Alvarez and Thiago Almada for the match at Anfield.
Arne Slot appears to have almost everyone fit for tomorrow’s game, with only one significant absence during Tuesday’s session in Kirkby.
Who took part in Liverpool’s training today?
Liverpool posted live training footage on their official YouTube channel, showing Alexander Isak among the players practicing. The £125 million signing did not feature in the weekend victory over Burnley, as the coach felt he wasn’t quite ready for match action at Turf Moor.
Alexis Mac Allister also participated in training, showing no visible issues after a rough challenge from Lesley Ugochukwu on Sunday. Federico Chiesa trained as well, even though he isn’t included in Liverpool’s Champions League squad.
Rio Ngumoha, Trey Nyoni, and Jayden Danns were also involved, with the latter two eligible for the ‘List B’ squad, meaning they don’t need to be in the main lineup.
The only notable absence was Curtis Jones, still out with an injury sustained in the win over Arsenal at the end of August.

Aside from the ongoing injury to number 17, the news from Liverpool’s training ground ahead of the Atletico clash is mostly positive.
When the team is announced about 75 minutes before kickoff, all eyes will be on whether Isak starts or comes off the bench. It’s likely that Slot will continue to start Hugo Ekitike, but the Sweden international could be brought on if needed.
It’s also encouraging to see Mac Allister involved and seemingly unharmed by Ugochukwu’s foul at Turf Moor. The allowance to name 12 substitutes could give young players like Nyoni and Danns a chance to be part of the matchday squad.
