Liverpool fans took to social media to share their reactions after watching the Reds take on Burnley.
Entering the weekend’s Premier League fixtures, Liverpool were the only team with a perfect winning record, having beaten Bournemouth, Newcastle United, and Arsenal. However, before their match kicked off, they had dropped in the standings as both Arsenal and Tottenham secured victories.
Up against a resilient Burnley side, Liverpool found it difficult to create clear chances and were mostly restricted to shooting from distance. Ultimately, it was heartbreak for Scott Parker’s team, as Mohamed Salah scored a stoppage-time penalty following a handball by Hannibal.
The late goal meant Liverpool maintained their perfect start and returned to the top of the Premier League table.
Despite Salah scoring the decisive goal, fans were largely underwhelmed by his overall performance. Many criticized his lack of impact throughout the game.
One fan wrote: “This is definitely the worst I’ve seen Salah at the start of a season.” Another added: “We’re basically playing with ten men when Salah’s on the pitch.” A third commented: “Another poor game from Salah. We badly need Isak.” Others described him as “not himself” and even suggested it was “the worst individual performance of all time.”
On BBC Radio 5 Live, former Everton and England midfielder Leon Osman reflected: “The scoreline might make it seem like a routine win, but it wasn’t. Liverpool were good in possession, but their tempo was too slow. Burnley worked incredibly hard.
“Championship-winning teams find a way to win, even when not at their best. Top players might be quiet all game, but it’s Salah’s name on the scoresheet that made the difference. It’s a cruel result for Burnley.”
Liverpool now turn their attention to the Champions League, as they prepare to face Atletico Madrid at Anfield on Wednesday night.
