Arsenal supporters have taken to social media to share their thoughts following the team’s pre-season friendly against Athletic Bilbao.
On Saturday afternoon, Mikel Arteta’s squad continued their pre-season preparations by hosting the Spanish La Liga side at the Emirates Stadium.
New high-profile signing Viktor Gyokeres gave Arsenal the lead in the 34th minute with a superb header, and just moments later, Bukayo Saka doubled the advantage.
In the second half, Arsenal pushed for a third and were rewarded in the 82nd minute when Kai Havertz found the net.
While Gyokeres celebrated his debut goal, it was fellow new arrival Martin Zubimendi—who joined from Real Sociedad earlier in the summer—who stole the spotlight among fans.
Supporters were particularly impressed with Zubimendi’s all-around performance, highlighting his key role in assisting Gyokeres’ opener.
One fan wrote, “Zubimendi you baller,” while another said, “Zubimendi is the catalyst to Arsenal’s success. He brings out the best in others through his support play. Brilliant.”
A third commented, “Zubimendi btw, massive baller,” and another added, “Zubimendi is gonna change our lives, man.”
Someone else boldly predicted, “You saw it here first, Zubimendi is winning the Ballon d’Or next season,” while another simply stated, “Zubimendi is way too good.”
After joining the Gunners, Zubimendi shared his perspective: “What matters most at this club is how they’ve learned from past seasons. The lessons from how last season ended will be vital to reaching this year’s goals. Football often comes down to small details, especially in the Champions League.”
He continued, “I think Arsenal were the only side in that semi-final that truly challenged PSG, but they let it slip over fine margins.”
Next up for Arsenal is their Premier League opener next weekend—a clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford to kick off the 2025/26 season.
